Our love affair with Rottweilers began in 1999 when in a moment of madness we decided to buy a puppy. We had no idea exactly which kind but we knew it had to be one of the larger breeds. You see John really wasn't to keen on being seen in public with something small and hairy. Not that there is anything wrong with this type of breed is just isn't his thing. I had owned Dobermans in the past so we thought about that but eventually came to the decision that a Rottweiler was the breed for us. After contacting the Kennel Club for some guidance we located a litter close to the Scottish Borders. Armed with cash in our pocket we made the long drive to see the puppies but we were just going to look!!!

On arrival at our destination we found a household in mayhem! Puppies everywhere and the poor breeder looked exhausted. There was only the one puppy that had not been picked. She was happy and confident and she had stolen our hearts. We were not interested in pedigrees and hip scores, we just new that she was coming home with us there and then. And so we acquired our first Rottweiler. It is only now we realize how lucky we were. Things could have been so very different had we not picked that litter. You see you should never buy a puppy on the spur of the moment. It pays to do your homework and check the breeder first. By all means go and see the puppies but be sure that you are happy with what you see before making a decision. Meet the puppies parents if possible this way you can gauge their temperaments and check with your Vet or the Kennel Club to see which health checks are relevant to each breed. There are a lot of unscrupulous people out there who just want your money and you may be bringing home a puppy that comes with a lot of heartache.

We owe a lot to Susan Blair and for this we will always be thankful.

Kai was our foundation and she passed on many of her wonderful qualities to her progeny. She was taken from us too soon but she will forever remain in our hearts.

Until we meet again XX.
